" Background: David Moore received a bachelor of science in physics and mathematics from Yale University in 2006. In addition, he developed novel sensors for highly pixelized phonon-mediated particle detectors and provided the first demonstration of position and energy resolved particle detection with this technology.
Moore was a highly influential British philosopher of the early twentieth century.
The period of their overlap there has been called the “golden age” of Cambridge philosophy.
His thesis work focused on a search for interactions from low-mass dark matter particles in the CDMS detectors and significantly constrained possible dark matter signals reported by the DAMA/LIBRA, Co Ge NT, and CRESST experiments.
His career was spent mainly at Cambridge University, where he taught alongside Bertrand Russell and, later, Ludwig Wittgenstein.
Many of his best known and most influential works date from this period.
It was also during this period that Moore instigated the momentous break from the then dominant philosophy of Absolute Idealism that would prove to be the first step toward the rise of analytic philosophy. In both academic and non-academic spheres, Moore’s influence was due in no small part to his exceptional personality and moral character.George Edward Moore was born on November 4, 1873, one of seven children of Daniel and Henrietta Moore. Moore was raised in the Upper Norwood district of South London. In 1896, Moore took first-class honors in both Classics and Moral Science. After this, he attempted to win a Prize-Fellowship, as Mc Taggart and Russell had done before him.(Moore 1942a, 13) The conversations in question involved such notables as Henry Sidgwick, James Ward, and J. Moore’s and Russell’s relationship was lifelong, but it became strained early on.It was Russell who convinced Moore to study Moral Science, a division of philosophy in the British University system.Moore’s main contributions to philosophy were in the areas of metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and philosophical methodology. In epistemology, Moore is remembered as a stalwart defender of commonsense realism. His first two years of University study proved to be less than challenging, his time at Dulwich having already prepared him exceptionally well in Greek and Latin. It was during this time that Moore became interested in philosophy.
