Do you want to combine creating original fiction with an in-depth study of the English language? At Lancaster, all Creative Writing students combine writing with study in another subject.You’ll be taught Creative Writing through lectures, readings, practices and discussion in regular tutor-led workshops by practising writers.

In the national Research Exercise (REF) 2014 we were ranked 3rd in our discipline in terms of research power (with an 85% submission), 3rd for research environment.

We are also proud of our ability to make our research accessible and relevant to society and were ranked 7th for impact.

You will build up a writing portfolio throughout the year, which counts towards your final mark, and you will have the opportunity to work in small groups to offer supportive constructive criticism on each other’s work.

In the second year you’ll move on to Stylistics and Intermediate Creative Writing Workshop.

You will be given advice on where and how to publish your work and hear from a range of writers including the poet Paul Muldoon and the graphic novelist Benoit Peeters who are visiting professors in the department.
